‘The Fabled Forest’ is a D&D setting created by Sam, Aaron and Kye, using the game ‘A Quiet Year’.
Forgive me if I don’t remember all the lore we came up with, it’s been a year or two since we did this.
The end of the world as we know it.
It has been a year since much of the world was struck with a terrible mist that consumed and converted everything it touched to a purplish black glass. Only the land surrounding The Fabled Forest was spared, protected by the magic of the druids that had lived there. The mist has now retreated, but the glass wasteland is still uninhabitable for miles in all directions, and there are rumours of monsters so large and terrible that their heads reach the clouds if you venture too far out.
The Factions
The Oversight - The Druids of the Fabled Forest, though they are benevolent, they are a strict and traditional people. They live in a network of treetop huts and towers, and they worship ‘The Ancient One’, a colossal tree at the heart of the forest. (PCs from the Oversight don’t have to actually play as druids, they can be any nature-flavoured magic-user).
Runwell Village - A village of river people at the edge of the forest that have lived in harmony with the Oversight for generations. Though they are humble and respectful of the Oversights spiritual ways, they are more resourceful, scientific and technologically savvy, particularly using hydropower contraptions to make life easier.
The Outlier District - The Oversight predicted the coming of the mist and warned as many as they could, and the cobbled-together villages of The Outlier District is what evolved from the displaced people who heeded that warning, and survivors that came out of underground hiding in the aftermath. There is a tentative peace between the Oversight and the Outliers, though the Outliers are struggling to adhere to the Oversights rules while they try to rebuild.
The Volcano Folk - Surrounding Tekaa, the black volcano at Obsidian Bay, is a strange town of people who worship the volcano. Though many would find their ways creepy and cult-ish, they are peaceful, and they have a mutually beneficial relationship with the Oversight.
The Blackclaw Clan - A hostile tribe of warriors who live in a system of caverns in the Blackrock mountains. The Fabled Forest belonged to their ancestors, and now the mist has come and ruined the rest of the world, they want the forest back, and they have no interest in sharing it. All the other factions are united in their need to defend themselves against the Blackclaw Clans constant attacks.
